Louisiana Specialty Stainless Steel Producer Expands Product Line and Launches Service-Based Offerings to Meet Global Demand

BATON ROUGE, LA – November 1, 2012 – Today, Baton Rouge-based specialty stainless steel producer American Utility Metals (AUM), LLC announced it has changed its name to Crompion International, LLC. The name change and rebranding come as the company works to expand its global presence and reinforce its focus on creating solutions through new services and additional metallurgists on staff. This week, Crompion International celebrated the success of this evolved company vision with the announcement of a multi-million dollar contract, one of the company’s largest yet, to fabricate stainless steel products for a leading manufacturer in the transportation industry.

“We’re taking a page from industries, where certain companies have broken away from the pack and into premium positioning,” stated George M. Schaffer, President of Crompion International. “Our value-add approach, as opposed to strictly a supply approach, ensures a solution to a customer need rather than simply a sale.”

Since 2000, AUM has supplied and distributed Cromgard, a high-performance, low-nickel stainless steel to a loyal base of worldwide customers in a broad range of industries – from sugarcane and fire apparatus to freight rail and bus manufacturing. During that time, it has evolved into a company that goes beyond a single grade of stainless steel offerings to provide solutions to customers’ needs and now reflects this evolution in its transformation into Crompion International.

“This is more than just a name change, though. This company just got better,” added Schaffer.

In addition to offering new lines of products, Schaffer has expanded his team, adding experienced industry professionals and veteran metallurgists. The enhanced industry expertise enables Crompion International to provide a suite of new services and customer guidance, not often found with competitors.

Crompion International operates in markets around the globe; however, the company has been dedicated to its home in Louisiana. They have teamed up with local university leadership to research and develop innovations for the industries which Crompion International pursues. In fact, their partnership with the LSU AgCenter and Audubon Sugar Institute has yielded a product that is currently increasing efficiency for the sugarcane industry and has the potential to enhance a myriad of industries worldwide.

“Strong research and existing relationships, such as ours with the LSU AgCenter, will help us in developing more innovative and efficient products for the constantly evolving industries which we serve,” stated Schaffer. “We hope to spread local research and innovation to the global business community, supporting the wealth of knowledge and talent that can be found in this state and bringing the fruits of the hard work back to Louisiana.”

As the company announces it name change, expanded offerings, and enhanced vision for the future, it also celebrates one of its largest contracts to date. Touting its services and fabrication abilities, Crompion International was able to secure a large deal, for an unannounced sum of money, with a leading manufacturer in the transportation industry.

“Our most recent deal speaks volumes about the evolution this company has experienced,” stated Schaffer. “We won this contract because we were able to provide services and capabilities that no other company could. We are incredibly excited about what’s in store.”

Crompion International is headquartered in Baton Rouge, LA with offices in Colorado Springs, CO. The company operates and 85,000 square foot processing facility in Akron, Ohio as well as eight North American warehouses.
